Summary

I loved the dystopian setting and following a character as they "wake up" and are set on a path。 I wish it had more world-building because the vague descriptions are so interesting, but the holes left can be filled in by so many assumptions like a game。 Glad to finally read one of those classic English Lit books that I was never assigned, and that I enjoyed it! Siento que deberíamos leer este libro cada cierta cantidad de años, porque en cada ocasión le encontraremos un significado diferente。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 To be honest I haven't read a lot of Ray Bradbury I think only one, this book hit me really hit me the fact that this book actually predicted some parts about the future and how empty we let society become but also the idea that books are so powerful so important that people would burn them, give their lives for them is incredible。 I love the idea of people memorising books so they are not lost, what book would you memorise? A well deserved 5 out of 5 for this 68-year-old book。 To be honest I haven't read a lot of Ray Bradbury I think only one, this book hit me really hit me the fact that this book actually predicted some parts about the future and how empty we let society become but also the idea that books are so powerful so important that people would burn them, give their lives for them is incredible。 I love the idea of people memorising books so they are not lost, what book would you memorise? Phenomenal book, exceptional writing。 Love it

A world of fast and shallow entertainment, of abject emptiness that is only falsely filled by screens and of fragile people that melt away like wax at the idea of feeling。 It completely baffles me how Bradbury had the vision to represent our current way of life in such a poignant and accurate manner。 The ending did catch me off guard。 While it ended on a (semi) positive and hopeful note that fuels me to enact individual change that can, in time, be transposed into something larger, it felt very A world of fast and shallow entertainment, of abject emptiness that is only falsely filled by screens and of fragile people that melt away like wax at the idea of feeling。 It completely baffles me how Bradbury had the vision to represent our current way of life in such a poignant and accurate manner。 The ending did catch me off guard。 While it ended on a (semi) positive and hopeful note that fuels me to enact individual change that can, in time, be transposed into something larger, it felt very sudden and partly unclear。 。。。more

A hollow main character, terrible narrative style, a manic pixie dream girl, clichés, predictability。。。 I'm sure I could find a One Direction fanfic written by a 13 year old which would be better than this。 Can't believe I spent my money on this instead of just getting McDonald's。 A hollow main character, terrible narrative style, a manic pixie dream girl, clichés, predictability。。。 I'm sure I could find a One Direction fanfic written by a 13 year old which would be better than this。 Can't believe I spent my money on this instead of just getting McDonald's。 。。。more

This was one of those books that I can’t stop thinking about during the day and can’t wait to read it at night。 It made me really think about our society today。 Although, it was not the easiest read。

People seem to have loads of fun loving or hating this book, so I was naturally curious to read this one。 And, despite the absurdity of its premise, I was pleasantly surprised。 It’s actually pretty , which I wasn't expecting。While you could argue the whole "book good, screen bad" schtick gets a little up its own ass, building a future dystopia focused on screen obsession turned out to be a good call。 It had me very hooked and it called me to mindfulness。 People seem to have loads of fun loving or hating this book, so I was naturally curious to read this one。 And, despite the absurdity of its premise, I was pleasantly surprised。 It’s actually pretty , which I wasn't expecting。While you could argue the whole "book good, screen bad" schtick gets a little up its own ass, building a future dystopia focused on screen obsession turned out to be a good call。 It had me very hooked and it called me to mindfulness。 。。。more

Neat idea, I'll admit it, and the message that it wanted to convery was strong, but that's it。 The execution was very bad, characters were interesting but underdeveloped, dialogues were okay, or maybe I just expected better, the story in itself felt kinda bland and it felt as if the whole purpose of the book was its message and that whatever happened inside the story didn't matter as much。The author's writing style made me want to smash my head, so much description, so much details that tried to Neat idea, I'll admit it, and the message that it wanted to convery was strong, but that's it。 The execution was very bad, characters were interesting but underdeveloped, dialogues were okay, or maybe I just expected better, the story in itself felt kinda bland and it felt as if the whole purpose of the book was its message and that whatever happened inside the story didn't matter as much。The author's writing style made me want to smash my head, so much description, so much details that tried to fill the void that was felt because of the lack of proper plot point。 Also too many metaphors, I did try to understand some of them but I just gave up midway。 。。。more

I love the concept of this book, it was a very intriguing and enticing novel。 I have always loved futuristic, sci-f i dystopian type novels, movies and games。 When I read the description about a dystopian futuristic society where all forms of literature were essentially burned, I not only found it interesting, but also ironic。 The story itself was a bit strangely written, but well written nonetheless。 It’s short and direct, and can easily be finished in very little time for a quick read。 One comp I love the concept of this book, it was a very intriguing and enticing novel。 I have always loved futuristic, sci-f i dystopian type novels, movies and games。 When I read the description about a dystopian futuristic society where all forms of literature were essentially burned, I not only found it interesting, but also ironic。 The story itself was a bit strangely written, but well written nonetheless。 It’s short and direct, and can easily be finished in very little time for a quick read。 One complaint I do have is that it goes into little detail about society as a whole and mainly focuses on the “books are banned” aspect, and that it is only comprised of 3 long chapters that forced me to read it entirely, that’s my own personal problem since i’m a “let me finish this chapter,” type of person l, but if you are like me do be cautious of that。 Overall I enjoyed the book and recommend it since it didn’t take up too much of my time and was entertaining。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 While I think the story and plot was interesting and well written, the constant self affirmation from the author about how this is a possible reality felt misleading if not similar to propaganda。 The story was very adventurous almost with how Guy explored the idea of books being a source of truth and information in a world where it was forbidden。 The reason this book gets three stars from me is that the dangers felt overexaggerated like a red scare of the digital information age。 It is also hypo While I think the story and plot was interesting and well written, the constant self affirmation from the author about how this is a possible reality felt misleading if not similar to propaganda。 The story was very adventurous almost with how Guy explored the idea of books being a source of truth and information in a world where it was forbidden。 The reason this book gets three stars from me is that the dangers felt overexaggerated like a red scare of the digital information age。 It is also hypocritical as the author would also appear on TV shows, conversations on the radio, and other forms of media he depicted as evil and brainwashing in the book。 While he states it's a "what if," the idea that it is evil feels intrusive。 It makes for a great story and adventure novel, but the message doesn't make much sense。 。。。more

Ändå bra trots att den är rätt flummig och osammanhängande。 Men förstår ändå varför den är en klassiker。 Enkel att läsa och kul om man orkar gräva sig ner mer i vad författaren hade för egentligt budskap med boken。

the sheer amount of TIME it took me to actually finish this says a lot。 i recognise that there are important themes but i just couldn't engage with it。 the first 2 thirds were very fast paced, but then i barely got to the end。 the disappointing end。 i feel like going into this expecting a dystopia meant creating expectations that weren't met。 the end felt like it was lacking; there was so much POTENTIAL。 + there were some really good lines in here; bradbury's desriptions >>>>+ very distinct writ the sheer amount of TIME it took me to actually finish this says a lot。 i recognise that there are important themes but i just couldn't engage with it。 the first 2 thirds were very fast paced, but then i barely got to the end。 the disappointing end。 i feel like going into this expecting a dystopia meant creating expectations that weren't met。 the end felt like it was lacking; there was so much POTENTIAL。 + there were some really good lines in here; bradbury's desriptions >>>>+ very distinct writing style, stream-of-consciousness style that i enjoyed (sometimes)+ important themes & call me callous but it's always interesting to see imagined crumbling societies- i didn't like the characters。。 very weird and felt inconsequential? even though this was so character-driven? montag was just so strange and unlikeable which。。 i get that he's an ordinary guy caught up in this dystopia but he had no personality at all and he just bumbled his way through his hero's journey- finishing this felt like wading through wet cement and the only thing stopping me from DNFing was an impending deadline based on this book。。。 。。。more

Dystopia。 Along with 1984, and Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451 is a warning of the horrors that may come。Bradbury wrote this by combining elements of five short stories, and in parts it shows。 It does feel a little clumsily put together where you can tell that some parts were not originally meant to be together。The end result, however, is a masterpiece in disturbing insight。 Written over fifty years ago, this has stood the test of time。 It's clever use of media in the 'parlour walls' and the 'fa Dystopia。 Along with 1984, and Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451 is a warning of the horrors that may come。Bradbury wrote this by combining elements of five short stories, and in parts it shows。 It does feel a little clumsily put together where you can tell that some parts were not originally meant to be together。The end result, however, is a masterpiece in disturbing insight。 Written over fifty years ago, this has stood the test of time。 It's clever use of media in the 'parlour walls' and the 'family' dominating society predicts the modern era。As with most dystopian tales, the characters know something is wrong。 They also show how to beat the system - and usually do in the end。 Even if it's not the end they would actually choose。 。。。more

I wonder had I not read Niel Gaiman’s 60th anniversary introduction to the book, would I have liked it as much? There were two things he wrote that shaped the way I approached this book: 1。 that this is a period piece, and 2。 “if someone tells you what a story is about, they are probably right。 If they tell you that that is all a story is about, they are very definitely wrong。”Ray Bradbury’s book is about how TV rots your brain and how books will make you a more thinking and intellectual person; I wonder had I not read Niel Gaiman’s 60th anniversary introduction to the book, would I have liked it as much? There were two things he wrote that shaped the way I approached this book: 1。 that this is a period piece, and 2。 “if someone tells you what a story is about, they are probably right。 If they tell you that that is all a story is about, they are very definitely wrong。”Ray Bradbury’s book is about how TV rots your brain and how books will make you a more thinking and intellectual person; according to other reviews, the author may have even believed that was all the story is about。 But I choose to believe that the book is about more than that — that instant gratification and mindless entertainment are as much social concerns then as they are now as they will be in the future, and that consuming quality content and taking the time to think, reflect, discuss are the only things that will counterbalance them。I write this from the end of 2021, 68 years after Fahrenheit 451 was published and 28 years before the plot is set。 In this alternate reality, 10 second Tiktoks are the new TV while TV is slowly joining the ranks of books。 A well-read "reader" is seen in the same light as a self-described "movie buff"。 Society willing heads down this route as uneducated portions of the population reject the warnings of scientists while happily heading home to their sensationalized and questionably factual news -- programs not unlike Montag's Hound chase and eventual "catch" for the sake of views。 On second thought, is this reality really all that different from Bradbury's? 。。。more
